Although Zahir Rana and his
clients enjoy the luxury of expen-
sive cars, the business isn’t about
the money for him, he says.
Through funds generated by
car shows, car auctions and sales
of his videos, he is able to give
back to organizations such as
the Aga Khan Development Net-
work (AKDN), which works with
developing countries in the areas
of health, education, culture, rural
development, institution-building
and economic development.
“This organization was founded
by people of a similar religious
background to mine and I know it’s
100 percent effective,” he says.
He also contributes to the city
he loves by supporting the Mustard
Seed and AIDS research, and feels
particularly connected to Indig-
enous Arts programs, as his wife
works with Native peoples’ law.
“A lot of young Native peo-
ple are very, very talented and
funding them only enables them
to expand their abilities and
get better at it,” he says.
